Levels of Membership

Stand apart from the crowd with your membership of the IPW or ISPW  at any level of your career. Within the Institute, we understand that many professionals are working in a wide range of areas and are all at different stages of their careers. Therefore, there are a number of different membership levels, which cater for and reflect the individual circumstances of each member.

Student Membership- Leading to Full or Sponsored Membership

Student membership is available to individuals who are intending to qualify for Full or Sponsored membership. They will be required to sit the IPW/ ISPW entrance examination or submit a set of assignments under the Experienced Practitioner route without paying the examination fee on one occasion during their membership year. Once they have met the criteria for membership, satisfied compliance criteria and provided confirmation of professional indemnity and public liability insurance cover, their membership will automatically convert to Full or Sponsored membership with no additional membership fee to pay in their first membership year.

Sponsored Membership (SIPW) (SISPW)

Sponsored membership is available to individuals who plan to practise (or are already practising) by taking client instructions, but delegate document drafting responsibilities to a Fellow or Full member of the Institute. Sponsored members are not ‘employed or under contract’ to Full members

Full Membership (MIPW) (MISPW)

As a fully accredited member of the IPW you will have passed the comprehensive entry requirements and be in a strong position to help bolster your already valued reputation by becoming a part of this well respected organisation.  Full Membership is available to individuals who plan to practise by taking client instructions and by drafting client documents which is achieved by meeting the Institute’s membership criteria. Full membership is available to individuals who have passed the Institute’s entrance examination, or it has been established that they have qualified for exam exemption, fulfilled the requirements of continuing professional development and arranged and retain professional indemnity and public liability insurance approved by the Council throughout their membership.

Fellow Membership (FIPW) (FISPW)

Fellow membership is available by invitation of the IPW Council, to Full members.

Retired Membership

This is available to Fellow, Full, and Sponsored members who no longer practice as Willwriters, but wish to continue professional indemnity insurance cover for the Wills that they have already written.

Associate Membership  (AIPW) (AISPW) :

Full members can have ‘Associate members’ working for them. These are “instruction takers” who are taking Will instructions and/or giving advice on behalf of a Full, Fellow or Sponsored Member of the Institute.  Associate Membership is available to those in  qualifying employment or where they are contracted to a Fellow, Full or Sponsored member. (Note: If they cease to work for, or be contracted to, a Fellow, Full or Sponsored member, their Associate membership lapses).
