INTRODUCTION TO WILL TRUSTS 22nd May 2018

 A one-day course to introduce newly qualified Willwriters to the law and practice of Will Trusts.

Prerequisites: 

- Have passed the IPW entrance exam, or an equivalent exam accepted by the IPW.

- Having attended the IPW courses in respect of Lasting Powers of Attorney and Advising the Elderly (or an equivalent course accepted by IPW).

- Have at least 3 months Willwriting experience OR written (full members) or have taken instructions for (associate members) at least 15 Wills.


Full Course Details

Outcomes:  By the end of the course, with the aid of their course notes delegates will be able to:

  1. State what a Trust

  2. State the purpose of creating one

  3. State the test for capacity for creating one

  4. State who can make one

  5. State how a trust is constituted

  6. State how many trustees may be appointed

  7. State what powers and responsibilities the trustees have

  8. State the types of trust and at least one example of when each would be advisable

  9. State what rights the beneficiaries have under each type of trust

  10. State how each type of trust is taxed

  11. State how the trustees appoint funds out of the trust

  12. State the Process for winding up a trust
